    LL： Hey， Li Hua can I borrow your cell？

    LH：你要借我的什么來著，cell？

    LL： You know your cell. Your cell phone. LH：噢，原來cell就是cell
phone 手機(jī)的簡稱。你當(dāng)然可以借用我的手機(jī)。拿去！

    LL： Thanks. Having a cell is so convenient. I just need to give Rick
a call and let him know I am going to be late to meet him. LH ：手機(jī)是
很方便。你看，你現(xiàn)在快要遲到了，有手機(jī)就可以打個(gè)電話告訴Rick，否則他會(huì)
以為你不來了呢！

    LL：（Larry makes phone call） Hey， Rick ， it's Larry. I'm running
a bit late. I'll meet you at the library in about half an hour. OK？ See
you then， Bye！ Thanks ， Li Hua ， here's your cell back. LH：你半小
時(shí)就能到圖書館見Rick？那你就快走吧！對(duì)了，Larry ，你不自己也有手機(jī)嗎？

    LL： I am embarrassed to say my apartment is such a mess that I can't
find my cell. I am sure it is there somewhere under a pile of clothes.

    LL： Right， when my cell starts ringing， I'll be able to find it.

電話。

    LL： Okay ， it is 5-5-5-2-3-4-5. I already have your cell number
programmed into my phone， Li Hua. LH ： Larry，我得用一下我的手機(jī)，Mary
給我留了話，不知道她找我做什么？

    LL： So ， what was the call about？ Give me the 411. LH：你在說什
么奇怪的東西��？什么是give me the 411 ？

    LL： You know you dial 411 to reach the information operator， right？

    Well， when I said to "give me the 411，" I meant for you to give
me information just like the operator gives you the number you are looking
for. LH ：對(duì)呀，要查電話號(hào)碼就打411 ，然后他們就會(huì)把你要的號(hào)碼告訴你。
所以，你說“give me the 411 ”，意思就是要我告訴你Mary打電話給我有什么
事。Mary是問我想不想?yún)⒓用魈焱砩显谒�家舉行的讀書會(huì)。

    由此看來咱們國家的一些電話跟國外都是反的，比如我們查號(hào)打114 ，美國
打411 ，我們報(bào)火警打119 ，美國是打911.不過美國的911 熱線比我們的范圍更
廣一點(diǎn)，撥打這個(gè)號(hào)碼還可以報(bào)案，有時(shí)候也可以做做數(shù)學(xué)題>>

    LL： Hmmm ……I don't know Mary. What is the 411 on her ？

    LH：噢，你要知道有關(guān)Mary的情況？Mary她人很好，也很用功。你想不想跟
我去參加明天的讀書會(huì)。這樣你就能見到Mary了！

    LL： I'd really like to meet Mary ， but I've been invited to a party

    LL： One of the guys I work with - Fred - has been given a big promotion.
He has invited several of us from work to meet him at a pub to celebrate.

    LL： He's a great guy. Oh ， Li Hua ， I've got to go ！ I've got
to meet Rick at the library. I'll give you more 411 on Fred some other
