    LH： Larry，Laura 說她下個周末不能去參加David 的聚會，因為她要去看

    LL： That's baloney. She's just making up an excuse not to go to the
party.

    LH： Laura是在找借口？我想不會吧！對了，Larry ，你說"That's baloney"，
這是什么意思呀？Baloney 不是做三明治用的一種大香腸嗎？

    LL： Yes， literally， baloney is a lunchmeat ； however， in this
case， baloney means "nonsense."

    LH：在這種情況下，baloney 是指胡說，廢話。你的意思是Laura 在胡說。
嗨，Laura 不去就不去吧，為什么要騙人呢？

    LL： She doesn't want to go to the party either because her ex-boyfriend
Jack will be there and doesn't want to be rude.

    LH： Larry，婉言謝絕邀請也沒有什么不禮貌。另外，Laura 上次對我說她
和Jack雖然分手了，可還是好朋友。我不相信Laura 是在找借口。

    LL： Now， that's really baloney. The two of them don't even speak
to each other anymore.

    LH：他們倆現(xiàn)在見了面都不理睬，也不說話？這跟Laura 說的完全相反，是
誰告訴你的呀？That's baloney！

    LL： That's what Jack told me the last time I spoke with him. He seemed
very disappointed that they weren't getting along. He sounded really sincere.

    LH：他對和Laura 分手感到很失望！That's baloney！要是他感到惋惜，Laura
又說他們還是朋友，那為什么他告訴你兩人見了面象仇人那樣不理睬，不說話的？
我才不相信Jack！

    LL： Come on， Jack is a good guy. He wouldn't tell me something that
is baloney.

    LH：可是Laura 也不是壞人，她也不是說謊的人哪！。

    LL： Okay ， okay. Forget what I said ！ It was all just a bunch of
baloney ， anyway ！

    LL： Even if Laura isn't coming ， I am glad Tom is coming to David's
party. Tom is a real party animal ！

    LH： Larry，你說什么？Tom 是party animal？ Tom是人，不是什么動物！

    LL： Yes， he is a human being， but he is a human being that loves
to go to parties！ People that love to party are party animals.

    LH：原來party animal指的是特別喜歡參加聚會的人，也就是聚會狂。Tom
哪一次聚會都不錯過，要這么說，他的確是個party animal. Larry ，我看你也
是一個喜歡參加聚會的人，也是個party animal！

    LL： Yeah ， but I am not as much of a party animal as Tom.

    LH：你倒挺謙虛的，覺得自己還比不上Tom.你說說，你哪一點比Tom 差呢？

    LL： Well ， Tom goes out to parties nearly every weekend. I've got
too much to do， and I really can't go out all the time.

    LH：那倒是，Tom 確實每個周末都去參加聚會，你還沒到這個程度。Larry ，
David 平時很嚴(yán)肅，還很害羞，沒想到他會舉辦這個聚會。他絕不是象你和Tom
那樣的party animal.

    LL： Well ， you might be surprised ！ Sometimes at a party David
relaxes and acts just like Tom - like a real party animal ！

    LH：我才不信呢！David 參加聚會時比平時更放松一點是可能的，但絕不會
象Tom 那樣活寶。我看見過Tom 在聚會上的樣子， David不可能是個party animal.

    LL： Sure ， he laughs， tells jokes and has a good time - and some
times he gets crazy and does the funniest things.

    LH：這可出乎我的意料。David 居然還會如此談笑風(fēng)生，講笑話，做逗人笑
的事。說明我對他還不了解。

    LL： What about you ， Li Hua ？ Are you a party animal ？

    LH： Larry，你別胡扯了！你看我像聚會狂嗎？

    LL： Let's just say if someone said to me "That Li Hua is a real party
animal" - I'd say that is baloney ！

    今天李華學(xué)到了兩個常用語。一個是baloney ，意思是騙人的鬼話，胡扯。
