2017考研英語(yǔ)：考得我都“方”了!

　　又是一年夏熱時(shí)，看著考研書(shū)，吃著考研餐。終于，有同學(xué)說(shuō)，老天，我又“方”了�？粗�大家這么辛苦，跨考考研高老師和大家來(lái)分享一下關(guān)于“方”了一些地道的英文表達(dá)。

　　1. Square 方形(比較簡(jiǎn)單的)

　　短語(yǔ)：to be a square peg in a round hole

　　方形的釘子插在圓形的孔里，指格格不入

　　例句： His appearance here is like a square peg in a round hole.

　　他在這里出現(xiàn)，顯得有些格格不入。

　　那square還有其他很美的意思如：

　　be there, or be square(一定要來(lái)，不見(jiàn)不散)-----通常是一種玩笑性質(zhì)的施壓，像是說(shuō)，晚上party要來(lái)哦，誰(shuí)不來(lái)誰(shuí)是孫子。

　　call sth square/square accounts(雙方扯平、互不相欠)

　　例句： He deliberately insulted me but I'll square accounts with him one day.

　　他故意侮辱我，但總有一天我會(huì)跟他算賬的。

　　3)to be fair and square公平對(duì)待每個(gè)人

　　例句：I ask no odds, I just want you to be fair and square.

　　我不要求特殊照顧，我只要求您公正。

　　4)to look someone square in the eye看著某人的眼睛，表示坦誠(chéng)

　　例句： He sat me down, looked me square in the eye and said, "I love you." 他拉我著坐下，看著我的眼睛說(shuō)，我愛(ài)你。

　　5)on the square誠(chéng)實(shí)公正地、正大光明地

　　例句： We just want this trail on the square.

　　我們只希望這場(chǎng)審判能夠正大光明地進(jìn)行。

　　6)out of square不一致;不協(xié)調(diào)

　　例句：Both reports are from supposedly reliable sources, but they are out of square.

　　例句：He offered us a square answer.

　　例句： He is trying to get all his legal troubles squared away as soon as possible.

　　他努力把所有法律上的麻煩搞定。

　　9)a square deal公平交易

　　例句： The workers were offered a square deal of a 40-hour week and guaranteed overtime.

　　工人們得到了每周40小時(shí)和保證支付加班費(fèi)的公正待遇。

　　10)to square off擺好架勢(shì)準(zhǔn)備戰(zhàn)斗或比賽

　　例句： French soldiers squared off with a gunman at a road checkpoint.

　　在一個(gè)公路檢查站法國(guó)士兵擺開(kāi)陣勢(shì)，準(zhǔn)備迎戰(zhàn)一名持槍者。

　　11)to square up解決或妥協(xié)，也指勇敢地與某人或某事對(duì)峙

　　例:1： I have something to square up with you.

　　我有點(diǎn)事要和你商談解決一下。

　　例句2： The world's most prestigious insurance company was last night squaring up to take on MPs who have accused it of being riddled with corruption.

　　世界上比較負(fù)盛名的保險(xiǎn)公司昨晚作出回應(yīng)，要和那些指責(zé)其腐敗泛濫的議員們較量一番。

　　12)to square one’s shoulders挺起肩膀、胸膛，可指這一動(dòng)作，也可比喻準(zhǔn)備迎接挑戰(zhàn)。

　　例句： You need to square your shoulders for the subsequent task.

　　為了接下來(lái)的任務(wù)，你要做好準(zhǔn)備。

　　13)to attempt to square the circle做不可能的事

　　例句： It is easier to square the circle than to get round a mathematician.從數(shù)學(xué)家面前混過(guò)去比“化圓為方”還難。

　　14)to square something with someone與某人就某事協(xié)調(diào)或達(dá)成一致

　　例句： I squared it with Dan, who said it was all right so long as I was back next Monday morning.我征得了丹的同意，他說(shuō)只要我下周一早上能回來(lái)就行。
